What is An Argument?

In a democratic society, felons ought to retain the right to vote.
1.

  • Democratic society

  • ought

  • retain

  • right to vote

2. Comparative. Because there are two different opinions.

3.

4. Actors- democratic society. Action- Right to vote.

5. Ought. They are doing time in jail for a reason. They should have no say so at all.

Role of Value.

Military conscription is unjust
Value:
· Justice/fair
· Moral/immoral
· Peace/violence
· Security/not
· Family/non-family
· Best value
2. Because it brings a country together.
3. Maximize peace
4. Spread peace and conserve life. If peace then all other values will come from it.
States ought not to own nuclear weapons
· Fair
· Security
· Peace
2. Because it’s not fair for one country to have nuclear weapons and not the others.
3. Maximize peace around the world.
4. If countries did not have nuclear weapons it would limit one of the reasons for war.
In the United states, juveniles charged with violent crimes ought to treated as adults in the criminal justice system.
· Fair
· Justice
· Peace
2. If you are big enough to commit the crime than you should be charged with time.
3. Maximize fairness.
4. If a 14 year old teenager murdered someone in cold blood then they should charged as an adult. If not there would be a lot more deaths.

1. Nuclear weapons unnecessarily cost too much money.
a. For the testing and dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan cost $5,821.0 billion
2. Maximizing more positive things.
a. The money could have gone homes, poor areas and education instead of killing innocent lives.
3. Nuclear Weapons unnecessarily cost too much money.
a. Reducing the arsenal to "3000-3500" would bring the costs down by 65% to "9 billion a year.
4. Maximizing a military budget.
a. The military needs money to have everything that they need.

Debating Values and Criterion

Military conscription is unjust
Value: Justice
Value Criterion : Justice is way of life. With justice people would run around doing whatever they wanted not caring who is being attacked.
Daphney: justice is fairness. We fought for hundreds of years for fairness and equality for all. So why should we not want fairness to all countries/states.
Attack: Yes. But not all justice is fair. Even though we have fought for hundreds of years for fairness and equality we still do not have it.

Agrument Packet

Pro
I think that gay people should have the right to get married. They are the same as everyone else. If everyone has the right to get married then why can’t people. Its not like they are hurting anybody. They are people not animals. So they should have that right.
Its not fair that heterosexuals couples can get money. But gay people don’t get money. They are citizen and gay should have a right to have happiness. If they have are living together and have been together for along the just as a heterosexual couple they can get many.

Con
Gay marriage can be a bad influence on kids. If a little girl sees or hears about a women and a women, a man and a man, getting married then they are going think that it’s okay to have feels for a woman as they can for a man.
In the bible, Leviticus 18:22, it says homosexual acts are an abdominal so it’s basically says if gay people get many. It’s an abomination to gay sometimes guys can catch STD’s from another guy and that can spiead.

Defensive refutations & Offensive responses

Defensive
Countering the truth: going off course from the truth
Pointing out the missing steps: bringing their thoughts to the open to try and understand
Explaining why the argument is not unique: telling the audience the reasons that something is same as always, not original
The argument is not comparative: there are not two sides
Raising empirical objects: messing around with the truth
Weighting arguments: seeing which argument has the most value
Logical fallacies: logically characterize an invalid argument
Causation/ cooritain fallacy: casual relationship between conduct and result using the random invalid arguments
Naturalistic fallacy: an invalid argument that uses words like ought to or should have not stating the facts
Begging the question: stating a position that needs to be proved as if it had already been proved
The false dilemma: a fake problem or not true situation
Offensive terms
Link term: failure to challenge two different meanings to make the audience be your side
Impact terms: challenge how it will be

CNN Student News- Washington Memonment

1.) In August there was a earthquake that shook the east coast. As a result the Washington Monument, in Washington D.C, was left with cracks in it. Durning the earthquake a parker ranger helped guide people out of the building and went back to help more. The Washington Monument stands at 550 ft. tall. A team of enigneers are working to repeare the cracks.

2.) I feel that it is very imperative that the cracks on the Monument get fixed. This buliding means alot to Americans. If this building were to fall it would be devasting. I hope they can fix the cracks and see if there is a why to get the building to hold against an earthquake.

3.) I will continue to watch to see if the cracks in the Washington Monument get fixed.

Burger King. Unlike McDonalds Burger King food does contain cellouse or wood pulp. The Whooper contains 640 calories, 39 grams of fat, and 51 grams of crabs. The Whooper contains nore calories, grams of fat and grams of crabs and this is without chesse. Unlike McDondals, the only healthy thing that they are salads. People want to be able to go to a fast food restaurant and get some "heathly". If there is such a thing.
